Paper Jam in the Fuser - HP LaserJet Pro M402dn
Paper Jams in the fuser usually occur when paper gets stuck while passing through the printer's heating assembly during printing. The good news? These jams are easy to fix by following a few simple steps.
Note: Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord before checking inside to ensure your safety.
Step 1: Open the front door
Press the front-door release button, then open the front door fully.

Step 2: Remove the toner cartridge
Carefully take out the toner cartridge and set it aside on a clean, flat surface. Avoid exposing it to direct light for long periods.

Step 3: Lift the jam-access cover
Gently lift the jam-access cover to expose the paper path leading to the fuser.

Step 4: Remove the jammed paper
Slowly and evenly pull out any jammed paper you see in the fuser area. Avoid tearing it--small scraps can cause future jams.

Step 5: Close the jam-access cover
Lower the jam-access cover back into position until it clicks securely into place.

Step 6: Reinstall the toner cartridge
Insert the toner cartridge back into the printer and make sure it's seated properly.

Step 7: Close the front door
Close the front door firmly until it locks into place.

After you're done, plug the printer back in, power it on, and try printing again. If the jam happens again, check for curled paper, worn rollers, or obstructions, inside the fuser area.
📌 Important Notes to Remember
Remove Paper Gently: Use both hands to pull jammed paper slowly and evenly to prevent tearing.
Avoid Overheating: The fuser may be hot right after printing. Wait a few minutes before clearing the jam.
Check for Hidden Scraps: Inspect the fuser area carefully for small pieces of paper that might be stuck inside.
Use Proper Paper: Make sure the paper type matches printer settings and avoid damp or thick paper that can cause jams.
